A group of twenty-one young girls from the RELEASING EAGLES programme, as well as one coach from the project, had an inspirational and motivating day on Saturday the 10th June 2017. A workshop was held at Ikageng in Soweto and the guest speaker for the day was Roxanne Kieswetter. Roxanne is a Digital Marketing Manager for Marion Reed Design. She is also a founder of the Swan Shine Project where she empowers young girls to take control of their lives and to make choices that assist them to live into their best possible future.
She covers topics that include personal care, hygiene and behaviours that lead to successful outcomes. Roxanne is an ex-model who worked for six years at a modelling agency (Looks International in P.E.) doing image consulting, fashion styling and facilitating grooming courses for budding models. Roxanne gave a moving and educational talk about social media and the use of technology in our current world. She highlighted the most important facts about the safe use of social media and how to manage our time and presence- showing us how to initiate contacts and also to be visible but with our eyes open at all times. We were so fortunate to have her spend the part of the day with us, and for us to be able to participate in this workshop, and especially to be educated about social media and its effects. We all learnt so much from the pointers that she gave us.
Following this we took part in a really interesting workshop about Emotional intelligence, which was facilitated by Tanya Long, leader of the Gauteng region of Releasing Eagles, a certified consciousness coach. The workshop showed us that anything is possible if we put our mind to it, and especially if we work hard and stay focused on what we want to achieve. The highlight of the day was Tanya’s “Flamingo talk”. This is an approach invented by Tanya which helps shed light on understanding that how what we think about ourselves and the actions that we take influence the results that we get on our lives. This is especially true when we look at what we think about ourselves. Tanya discussed with us that in order for great things to happen we need to make them happen. She also emphasized and that we always need to stay positive and focused.
The workshops were a great success and they were both very empowering.
The attendees and all the girls from Releasing Eagles want to say a very big THANKS to Roxanne for her inspiring talk, and to Tanya for putting it all together and helping us so much to understand Emotional intelligence.
